ELRETA MARIE McKNIGHT-SCOTT Memorial Scholarship

Elreta Marie McKnight-Scott was a woman who was abandoned by her husband with twelve kids. She was knocked off balance but, she was a God-fearing woman. She would persevere through poverty, ridicule, judgment, and a plethora of unexpected events. She would live her life raising her kids without assistance from her estranged husband. Marie was a loving and caring mother, friend, and well-liked in the community. Many of her children would go on to become well- respected athletes, prominent nurses, educators, business leaders, and more. Despite her challenges in life, she would overcome all through kindness, love, encouragement, unbias or impartiality, prayer, and the ultimate, "Jesus Christ."
The scholarship in her name is given to a Richmond County, NC senior who has overcome a physical and or mental challenge. They have not allowed their obstacles to define who they are and who or what they will become. Just as Marie did!
